Coffee concoctions are cool and kicky
In a perfect world, we would get eight hours of sleep a night so that we felt rested and refreshed from the time we woke up to the time we went to bed.
But that may be wishful thinking. Only 26 percent of respondents in a 2005 poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation reported sleeping for eight or more hours a night on weekdays.
So it's no surprise that many of us need an extra jolt of energy. Here are a few coffee drinks to help you wake up. If you want to make it a proper drink, try the Coffee Float, which contains coffee liqueur.
The Coffe Float gets a jolt from vodka and coffee liqueur. Coffee Float
- 2 parts Starbucks Coffee Liqueur
- 1 part vanilla vodka
- 1 part cola
- 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
Combine liqueur and vanilla vodka in a tall glass with ice. Fill with cola and top with ice cream.
Makes 1 drink.
Extra Smooth Iced Coffee

- 1 cup chilled brewed coffee (use a rich, dark roast)
- 2 rounded tablespoons extra-fine sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 teaspoon genuine vanilla extract
- 2 cups ice
Combine the coffee, sugar, cream, vanilla and ice in a blender. Blend until creamy.
Makes 2 servings for large cups or coffee mugs.
Cappuccino on Ice

- 1 1/2 cups strong brewed coffee
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup half-and-half
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a medium bowl, combine coffee and milk. Whisk in half-and-half and vanilla until well blended. Pour into glasses filled with ice.
Makes 3 servings.
