Wilt destroys coffee in Kiboga, Hoima
KAMPALA
THE Coffee wilt Disease (CWD) is destroying coffee trees in Kiboga and Hoima districts according to a monitoring report assessing the performance of nurseries under the replanting programme.
However, the report says the loss of coffee due to the prevalence of CWD is lower compared to the previous two years. There has also been improvement in prices thus rekindling the demand for planting materials.
The report, contained in the Uganda Coffee Development Authority monthly release, says; "the newly planted coffee [2004/05] was doing quite well but the current dry spell might affect the survival rate."
The report recommends the creation of a comprehensive coffee marketing chain to improve profitability and returns to farmers.
