Ordering Coffee Goes High-Tech

Ordering Coffee Goes High-Tech
Text messaging could soon be helping customers avoid long lines at the coffee shop or fast food restaurant in New England.

NewsCenter 5's Jim Boyd reported that some customers are using their cell phones to text message their orders so their food or beverage is waiting for them.

"If you order at 9 o'clock and the restaurant says two minutes. You'll get a message saying that at 9:02, your coffee will be ready," said one customer.

The service is offered by Gomobo.com. Customers are asked to fill out an online profile and enter credit card information.

Customers said using text messages has advantages.

"When the line is coming out the door and coming down here, people are like, 'Why is she so special?'" she said.

So far, several Dunkin' Donuts, Ben and Jerry's and Subway franchises have signed up to use text messaging in the Northeast.

A California Web site, MyTango.com, has also started a similar service.
