Africa to create coffee production plan
The Inter-African Coffee Organisation (OIAC) aims at creating soon a Coffee Production Plan in Africa, announced Monday in Cote d` Ivoire, the Secretary General of the institution, the Angolan Josefa Correia Sacko.
Speaking to ANGOP via the Internet, Josefa Sacko affirmed that the objective results from the fact that the continent has an advantage comparing to other countries of the globe concerning the climatic conditions.
She also justified that the African continent has been behind because its quota in the market is reducing due to some armed conflicts registered in certain countries. For an example, Josefa Sacko informed that Cotê d`Ivoire, which was the top coffee producer in Africa, ended up dropping to the third position.
HIV/SIDA, which affects rural areas, is also one of these problems, due to the lack of awareness campaign and adequate means to prevent the disease, and the lowering of prices in the international market that discourages production.
Inter-African Coffee Organisation's (OIAC`s) secretary general also said that during the next general assembly of the organisation, a seminar will be held in order to define the limits of performance.
